NERD SUMMER.

A history podcast, two best friends, one long reading list

Not just somebody's wife.

Nerd Summer started as two best friends spending a summer getting to know the women behind the Founding Fathers — women most of us only know by their husband's name. We're taking a moment to actually introduce them. Next stop: the First Ladies.

01

Two teachers' worth of research, minus the syllabus

Everyone can rattle off the Founding Fathers. Ask who Abigail Adams was beyond being married to John, or what Martha Washington was like before she was married to George, and the answers get thin fast. That's not because their stories don't exist — it's because history filed them under "wife" and moved on. This show is us pulling the file back out.

Season One is dedicated to the Founding Mothers — not as footnotes to their husbands, but as people worth knowing on their own terms. From there, we're moving chronologically into the First Ladies, women who ran the White House, ran campaigns, and often ran circles around the men whose names ended up on the portraits.

Chapter Three

Modern First Ladies
